What are Mini Blinds?

Almost everyone has heard the term “mini blinds,” but what does it mean—especially in comparison to other window treatments? Simply put, mini blinds are window blinds that use slats that are less than half the width of standard blinds. At Blindster, our selection of mini blinds includes a variety of window treatments featuring slats that around 1” in width.

Mini blinds are a popular term because they’re a popular fixture in households, businesses, and any buildings that require window treatments. Because of their affordability, light weight, and ease of cleaning, mini blinds are easy on the wallet, highly convenient, and are versatile enough to be installed in rooms with a wide variety of décor and color schemes.

Some major advantages of mini blinds include:

  • Highly effective at controlling light – While mini blinds aren’t as effective at blocking out light as blackout shades, they provide ample light control for most homeowners. They’re also easily operated, as wands can be used to open their slats and lift cords can be used to pull them up or down as needed.
  • Moderate cost – Mini blinds are popular choices for homeowners with a variety of budgets. They’re an especially attractive option for people who need to outfit an entire home, as the costs of higher end window treatments can add up when they must be purchased for a dozen or more windows.
  • Easy to clean – Because most mini blinds are made from highly durable and often synthetic materials, they’re easy to clean with household items, including many mild cleaners. With other blinds and shades, homeowners may need to watch out for staining or fading, but mini blinds hold up even after being exposed to small amounts of water or cleaner. They’re also easily dusted and wiped clean, making routine maintenance and upkeep a breeze.

Another advantage of mini blinds is familiarity. Because they’re so popular, many people prefer them over other types of window treatments due to knowing how to quickly and easily install and operate them.

What Are the Different Types of Mini Blinds?

At Blindster, we offer a few different types of mini blinds. Each of these varieties has its own colors, options, and possible sizes. They include:

  • 1” Aluminum Mini Blinds – If you’re looking for a classic mini blind, you can’t go wrong with our 1” aluminum mini blinds. These tried and true window coverings are like the ones you’ve seen in many other homes and businesses, but they’re made from high-quality materials and cut to extremely high levels of accuracy to ensure the perfect fit.
  • Cordless Aluminum Mini Blinds – Many homeowners are concerned about the dangers associated with mini blind cords. And while we include free cord cleats with all corded window treatment purchases, we know that many people prefer the peace of mind and convenience that comes with cordless options. Forget the lift cord—use the bottom rail to raise and lower these highly durable window treatments.
  • Privacy Aluminum Mini Blinds – If you’re concerned about your privacy—and let’s face it, who isn’t—you’ll love our privacy aluminum mini blinds. Built with no route holes, they provide seamless coverage of your windows. When closed, they cut glare, darken rooms, and keep prying eyes outside of your home.

For more information, spend some time on the product pages of our selection of mini blinds. You’ll find things like available colors, specifications, customization choices, maximum sizes offered, and even videos showing how the blinds are made.

How to Install Mini Blinds

As mentioned above, one of the biggest selling points for mini blinds is their ease of installation, their light weight construction, and people’s overall familiarity with them. However, we know that not everyone has installed mini blinds in the past, and it can be a new process for many people—especially new homeowners or people buying new window treatments for the first time.

If you need help installing your new mini blinds, be sure to check out our Blinds 101 Installation Page for a rundown on installing a huge variety of window treatments.

And for a quick refresher on installing mini blinds, follow these steps:

  1. Measure your windows – This is one of the most vital steps, as incorrect measurements can lead to blinds that don’t fit or that don’t provide the light coverage and privacy you need. Visit our comprehensive Measuring Instructions Guide for all the details on the best way to measure your windows before you place your order.
  2. Install the brackets – First, make sure you’re following the bracket mounting instructions for the type of installation you’re performing—inside vs outside. Next, be sure to follow the instructions on our installation page or provided by the manufacturer carefully. Make clear markings for the areas where you’ll drill into your wall or window frame for your brackets, and be sure they’re level to provide the best coverage.
  3. Install the valance – The valance is a covering for the head rail, and it’s secured to the head rail via valance clips. Locate these clips and keep them handy for when you reach this step. First, place the head rail on the brackets that you installed in your window frame on your wall in the step above. Then, place the valance onto the head rail and clip it into place using the valance clips. Finally, secure the blind wand if your window treatments came with one.

What’s the Best Way to Clean Mini Blinds?

Window treatments often seem like magnets for dirt and dust. It’s important to keep them clean, especially if you suffer from allergies or have pets and small children. Many people dislike cleaning blinds because of the tedious nature, but many types of aluminum blinds are much easier to clean than other types of window treatments.

To quickly and effectively clean your mini blinds, you’ll only need three items:

  • A feather duster
  • A vacuum with hose attachment
  • A damp cloth

Use the feather duster to collect surface dirt and dust and the vacuum to quickly remove pet hair and dust bunnies. A damp cloth can be used to wipe away stubborn dirt and dust. You can also use gentle cleaning solutions to get out tougher messes and light stains. However, be sure to check the manufacturer’s instructions or warnings before using any liquid other than water on your blinds.

A good cleaning routine involves only a few steps, which include:

  • Shutting blinds and dusting from top to bottom, then vacuuming up any dust or dirt that falls onto the floor
  • Opening blinds and dusting from top to bottom, again vacuuming up any remnants.
  • Using a dry or damp cloth to remove remaining bits of dirt and dust and vacuuming the floor to remove anything that fell from the slats, headrail, or bottom rail.

For windows that share a single frame, an extra large or over sized window treatment can create the illusion that the room has one giant and luxurious picture window. Wood Blinds vs Faux Wood Blinds

When it comes to elegance, beauty, and a timeless style that complements virtually any home décor, you simply can’t go wrong with wood or faux wood blinds. And whether you prefer 1” blinds, 2” blinds, supersized 3” blinds, cordless lift, or dark or light wood stains, Blindster has the perfect wood window treatments for your home.

But what if you’re having trouble deciding between wood blinds and faux wood blinds? At first glance, it can be difficult to tell them apart. Although they may look extremely similar, real wood blinds and faux wood blinds have unique pros and cons that all homeowners should understand before they place an order.

If you’ve got your heart set on wood blinds, but can’t decide on real vs faux, check out our comparison guide below:

Wood Blinds

Faux Wood Blinds

  • Made from real wood

As the name suggests, wood blinds are made from real wood. For many homeowners, there is simply no substitute for the real thing. The texture and fine details are exactly as you would expect in a product made from real trees.

  • Great at insulating rooms

Real wood is thicker and denser than faux wood, which also means that it’s more effective at insulating rooms. Installing wood blinds in your windows can help keep cold air out during the winter and cold air in during the summer, making your home more eco-friendly and helping to reduce your utility bills.

  • Manufactured using North American wood

If you’re concerned about purchasing products that are made using local materials and supplies, you’ll love our wood blinds. They’re manufactured using wood harvested from forests in the Eastern United States and Canada.

  • Natural wood grain patterns

Although faux wood blinds are designed to look like the real thing, there are some subtleties and intricacies of real wood grain that simply can’t be replicated, especially upon close inspection. Our wood blinds feature beautiful wood grain patterns, textures, and colors that will add beauty and luxury to any room in your home.

  • More color options

The color and stain of blinds can make a big difference in how they complement a room and match furniture and décor. If you’re looking for the most color and stain options for your home, you’ll want to stick with real wood blinds. Our 2” Premium Wood Blinds are available in 28 unique colors, while our 2” Privacy Wood Blinds are available in 17 colors.

  • Lightweight and easy to raise/lower

Weight can become an issue when blinds are manufactured to oversized specifications in order to cover large windows. Real wood blinds are relatively lightweight and are much easier to raise and lower, even at their maximum size limits, than many types of faux wood blinds.

  • Made from composite materials

Faux wood blinds are made from a blend of materials, including a composite wood material, PVC, vinyl, and vinyl compounds. Although they may contain very little in the way of real wood, they are designed to look and feel extremely similar to the real thing. For many homeowners, it’s virtually impossible to tell the difference unless they are inspected up close.

  • Highly resistant to warping and fading

Not being made from real wood gives faux wood blinds an advantage in harsh conditions, especially in areas with high humidity, sunlight exposure, and heat. Because they are manufactured using highly durable composite materials, faux wood blinds are much less likely to warp, fade, or discolor, even after years of exposure to harsh elements.

  • Easy to clean and maintain

Cleaning real wood requires care and special solutions that won’t damage the wood or soak into it, causing potential warping and fading. Faux wood blinds are much more resilient to a wider variety of cleaning products and solutions, making them much easier to clean and maintain.

  • Lower price point

Although our real wood blinds are priced competitively, faux wood blinds are even more affordable. If you’re looking to outfit an entire home or business with new wood blinds, choosing faux wood is a great way to save money without compromising on the look you want.

  • Available as shutters

In addition to our wide variety of faux wood blinds, we also offer a beautiful faux wood shutter that’s perfect for any room in your home. Lightweight and durable, our Fauxwood Plantation Shutters are manufactured with a hollow-bodied structure, making them easy to install yourself. Like our other faux wood blinds, these shutters are resistant to moisture, heat, and sunlight, making them ideal for rooms with high humidity or that receive frequent sun exposure.

Burgundy, Pink, Gold, Cream Scheme

  • The color scheme: Burgundy, pink, gold, and cream.

The combination of burgundy and pink creates a strong visual that immediately attracts the eye’s attention, but the intensity of the two colors is calmed and neutralized by the presence of more neutral and natural colors like gold and cream. This color scheme can be easily created in bedrooms and living rooms using paint, pillows, blankets, and window treatments.

The window treatments: Premium Roman Shades Group B – Lexi Cream, Premium Roman Shades Group D – Charleston Gold, Premium Roman Shades Group A – Wilmington Caliente

Our Roman Shades offer a wide variety of colors, making them ideal for capitalizing on trending color schemes and modernizing the look of any room in your home. In addition to being available in dozens of unique and striking colors, our Roman Shades also bring an elegant and beautiful look to any room where they’re installed. The combination of bold colors and attractive design makes these window treatments among our most popular, especially for homeowners who are looking to spruce up their home décor and style.

Red, Turquoise, Bright Green Scheme

  • The color scheme: Red, turquoise, and bright green.

Turquoise and bright green are common spring colors that can’t help but make you feel like you’re on a tropical vacation. Combining these colors with red accent pieces, such as window treatments, pillows, or artwork, can help create an interesting visual contrast. This color scheme is both bright and energetic, making it ideal for bedrooms, studies, kitchens, and other places where you may need a boost throughout the day.

The window treatments: Premium Light Filtering Double Cellular Shades – Forest FAB146, Premium Light Filtering Fabric Roller Shades Group A – Carina Turquoise CA201, Micro Aluminum Blinds – Garnet Red

Creating this visual combination is easily achieved with our large selection of blinds and shades. For creating the beautiful spring-inspired color scheme of dark green and turquoise, look no further than our Premium Light Filtering Double Cellular Shades and our Premium Light Filtering Fabric Roller Shades Group A. To completely pull off the look, a bold red should be added somewhere in the room, and if you choose to add that color via your window treatments, our Garnet Red Micro Aluminum Blinds will get the job done without breaking the bank.

Royal Blue and Yellow Scheme

Photo via Pinterest

  • The color scheme: Royal blue and yellow

This color scheme is perfect when it comes to creating both a spring-inspired look and a nautical look, also making it work for year-round use in homes near the coast, lakes, or rivers. An easy way to create this look is to mix and match blue and yellow window treatments and bedding with the opposing color wall paint or wallpaper. Choose black or gray accent pieces and small decorative flourishes to create a rich and elegant atmosphere throughout your room or your entire home.

The window treatments: Deluxe Blackout Vinyl Roller Shades – Navy, Premium Light Filtering Double Cellular Shades – Buttercup, Premium Blackout Fabric Roller Shades Group A – Twilight Savannah

Whether your blue and yellow color scheme is strictly spring-inspired or influenced by your home’s proximity to water, the window treatments listed above are a great way to bring the relevant colors into your home and accentuate the décor and accent pieces needed to pull off this look. For a nautical-themed room, you can’t go wrong with a few maritime pieces of décor like artwork, decorative seashells, or anchor motifs. To make the look more spring-influenced, eschew the nautical décor and instead place plants and colorful DIY projects throughout the room.

Neutrals and Bold Scheme

Photo Via Pinterest

  • The color scheme: Neutral colors with a bold accent wall or bold accent pieces

Although a room or home that’s mostly decorated with neutral colors may sound boring, the results can be dramatic and striking when that scheme is paired with a few strategically placed splashes of bold color, such as accent walls, brightly colored furniture, and dramatic window coverings. Finding neutral color décor is easy, as there’s no shortage of accent pieces and bedding available in colors like cream, white, tan, beige, and gold.

The window treatments: 2” Premium Cordless Wood Blinds – Off White, 2” Premium Cordless Faux Wood Blinds – Antique White, Deluxe Bamboo Woven Wood Shades Group A – Mirabella Tan, Cordless Pleated Shades – Oxford Ivory, Premium Roman Shades Group A – Lucky Sateen Teal

The first four of the window treatments listed above represent beautiful neutral colors that can fit with virtually any color scheme and pair beautifully with bold accent pieces and walls, while the last choice represents a bold color option if you choose to save your splash of color for your window treatments. Whichever option you choose, know that this color scheme is highly versatile and subjective, and that means you’ll have tons of freedom to experiment with the best colors and patterns for your home and your décor. And because the most common colors for both blinds and shades are neutral colors like white, gray, tan, and cream, there is no shortage of options to choose from, whether you prefer Roman Shades, aluminum mini blinds, or anything in between.

Best Blinds and Shades for Your Office

For many people, their office is a home away from home. After all, most jobs require employees to be in the office for at least 40 hours per week, and many business owners may also work at night and on weekends. Because of the long hours many people put in at the office, it makes sense that employees, managers, and business owners want to feel as comfortable and “at home” as they do when they’re actually at home. A big part of making that happen is taking the time to decorate and furnish their offices with the same care and attention that they give their home living spaces.

At Blindster, we know that one of the most effective ways to make your office feel like home is to pick the right window treatments. Although it may seem like a small touch, having the perfect blinds or shades to complement your office décor and maximize your control over lighting, privacy, insulation, glare, and other factors can go a long way towards making you more comfortable throughout the work day.

So if you’re looking for the best blinds and shades for your office, check out our list below:

You can also choose brighter stains and colors like Antique White and Alabaster to create the illusion of more space and maximize your office’s natural lighting. In that case, you’ll want to check out our Privacy Aluminum Blinds. Our Premium Blackout Fabric Roller Shades Group A are a stylish and elegant option for blocking out the sun’s harmful rays and increasing your privacy when you need it. Available in 13 unique colors, these shades come standard with a cordless spring roller shade lift and can also be ordered with a clutch continuous loop lift cord for an additional charge.

2 Inch Premium Light Filtering Sheer Shades

Hate the look of harsh overhead lighting? Manufactured with two layers of soft fabric sheers, these shades let in beautiful diffused natural light when open, and block out 99 percent of the sun’s UV rays when closed. That makes them perfect for offices that get a variety of different lighting conditions throughout the day.

How to Measure for Shutters

Traditional blinds and shades aren’t your only options when it comes to purchasing window treatments for your home. At Blindster, we’re proud to now offer indoor shutters. This unique window covering option is elegant and beautifully complements a wide variety of home décor, from classic stylings to contemporary designs. Like our blinds and shades, our indoor shutters can be mounted either to the inside of your window frame or the edge of your window opening depending on the size and shape of your windows and window frames.

We also offer three unique colors, including Cotton, Pearl, and Vanilla, and the shades can be purchased with either 2 ½” or 3 ½” louvers to match your tastes. And due to the faux wood materials used in the manufacturing process, our shutters are both highly durable and lightweight, making them easy to install, clean, and maintain.

Step-by-Step Measuring Guide

As with all of our window coverings, one of the most important steps to making sure you’re satisfied with your purchase is sending us precise measurements of your windows and window frames. If the measurements are off, your shutters may not fit your windows properly and may be difficult to install.

Getting precise measurements is a crucial step, but following the instructions below can help make the process easy.

Inside Mount Measuring Instructions

If you plan on installing your shutters inside your window frame and leaving the molding exposed, it’s important to make sure that your window frames are deep enough to support this installation method.

  • Minimum depth for inside mounts is 2 ½” from glass to the outer edge of the window frame.
  • Shutters with a 3 ½” louver require a minimum depth of 3”.
  • For best results, inside mounting is recommended for shades that will be installed on window frames with at least a 2 ½” minimum depth.

Once you’ve determined whether your window is suitable for an inside mount installation, you can begin the measuring process:

  • Step 1

Measure the width of the window from inside edge to inside edge in three separate places—top, middle, and bottom. Take each measurement down to the nearest 1/8” and record the smallest of these three measurements. That number will be used when you place your order with Blindster.

  • Step 2

Measure the height of the window frame from the window sill to the top of the window frame in three separate places—left, center, and right. Take each measurement down to the nearest 1/8” and record the smallest of these three measurements. That number will be used when you place your order with Blindster.

Important Note: Use the exact measurements you record rounded down to the nearest 1/8” when you place your order. The factory will cut your shutters to fit your windows perfectly during the manufacturing process, and any deductions taken before ordering could affect the proper fit of your new shutters.

Outside Mount Measuring Instructions

Like our blinds and shades, our shutters can also be mounted outside your window frames if the frames aren’t deep enough to support inside mounts.

  • Outside mounts are recommended for window frames that don’t have at least 2 ½” of depth required for proper installation of inside mounted shutters.
  • Because outside mount installations completely cover your windows, including your exposed window frames, it’s important to note that you will need to add inches to your final measurements.

After you’ve determined that outside mounts are your best option for installing your new shutters, you can begin the measuring process:

  • Step 1

Measure the full width of the window frame from edge to edge in three separate places—top, middle, and bottom. Take the largest measurement of these three and round it up to the nearest 1/8”. If you want to completely enclose and hide your window frames with your new shutters, add at least 4” to your largest width measurement.

  • Step 2

Measure the full height of your window from the window sill to the top of the window casing in three separate places—left, center, and right. Take the largest measurement of these three and round it up to the nearest 1/8”.

  • Step 3

To account for the presence of a window sill, add at least 2” to your largest height measurement rounded to the nearest 1/8”. If your windows don’t have windowsills, add at least 4” to your largest height measurement rounded to the nearest 1/8”.

Minimum and Maximum Sizes

Although our shutters can be custom cut to fit a wide variety of window sizes, it’s important to know the following facts before you place your order:

  • Minimum panel width: 8”
  • Maximum panel width: 36”
  • Minimum panel height: 16”
  • Maximum panel height: 60” without divider rail, 90” with divider rail, 112” with 2 divider rails
  • Minimum depth for inside mounts: 2 ½” for 2 ½” louvers, 3” for 3 ½” louvers
Maximum Number of Shutter Panels by Width Range
Width Range Number of Panels
18” – 36” 1 panel
36 1/8” – 68” 2 panels
68 1/8” – 96” 4 panels
136 1/8” 6 panels

Inside Mounts vs Outside Mounts for Blinds and Shades

When purchasing new window treatments, there can be a lot of decisions to make. Do you prefer blinds or shades? Wood or vinyl? Roman shades or roller shades? Blackout or sheer?

Out of all those major choices, one decision that many homeowners forget to consider is whether they want to mount their new window treatments inside their window frames or outside their window frames. Although it may seem like a minor decision, the installation method you choose can have a major impact on the appearance of your windows and your level of satisfaction with your new window treatments.

At Blindster, we know that choosing between inside mounts vs outside mounts can be a difficult decision for many homeowners—especially if they are accustomed to seeing their window treatments installed in a certain manner in the past. But, it’s important to review all the pros and cons before making a final decision, as certain homes, rooms, and windows may favor inside mounts, while others may favor outside mounts.

Before you begin measuring your windows for an inside or outside mount, check out Blindster’s list of pros and cons for each installation method:

Inside Mounts

Inside mount refers to blinds and shades that are installed within the confines of a window frame. That means the headrail is attached flush with the top of the window frame and the window treatment is fully contained inside the four corners of the frame itself.

Pros:

  • Inside mounts provide a sleek, built-in appearance.

If you prefer for your window treatment to look as unobtrusive as possible, inside mount installation may be your best option. Blinds and shades that are installed this way have a low-profile appearance and often have less visual impact on the room and its décor due to being recessed into the window frame.

  • Inside mounts make it easy to get precise measurements.

One of the most important parts of buying new window treatments is getting your measurements correct. The measurement process for inside mount installations is easy—you simply measure the width and height of your window frame to get the correct dimensions. Ordering inside mount blinds and shades can give you peace of mind knowing that your shades are likely to fit your windows perfectly.

  • Inside mounts maintain the functionality of deep window sills.

If your window frames have deep window sills, installing your blinds or shades inside your window frames can maintain the functionality of the sills, allowing you to use them as shelves or displays for books, plants, and other decorative items—even when the blinds are closed and fully extended.

Cons:

  • Inside mounts block some light and view when fully opened.

The headrail at the top of your window frame will always obscure a small amount of your view of the outdoors, and the effect can be exacerbated when the window treatments are fully opened due to the stacking of materials that occurs. Window treatments that use thick fabrics or materials may block out several inches of your window, even when the blinds or shades are fully raised.

  • Inside mounts require deep window frames.

Not all windows are capable of supporting inside mounts. Blinds and shades require a minimum depth for inside mounts, and some windows have shallow window frames that aren’t suitable for inside mounts. It’s vital that you have at least the minimum required space, plus a bit extra on either side of the headrail, to get proper function out of your new window treatments when they are installed inside your window frames.

Outside Mounts

Outside mounted window treatments are, as the name suggests, installed anywhere outside of the window frame. Whether they overlap the window frame by just a few centimeters or several inches, outside mounted blinds and shades create a distinct appearance in homes and can radically transform the appearance of windows.

Pros:

  • Outside mounts are extremely versatile and can be installed on almost any window.

Do your windows have shallow frames? Do they have an irregular shape that makes it difficult to inside mount traditional window coverings? Do your windows have protruding handles or cranks? If you answered yes to any of these questions, outside mounted window treatments may be ideal for your home. Because they don’t fit inside your window frames, outside mounted blinds and shades afford you with versatility that inside installations can’t match.

  • Outside mounts can cover unattractive window trim.

Window trim is often hit or miss. It either greatly enhances the beauty and appeal of your windows, or it’s something you would rather not look at every day. If your window trim falls in the latter category, outside mounted window coverings can cover it up completely. Best of all, if the unattractive trim or frame is at the top of your windows, you won’t have to see it even when your blinds or shades are fully opened due to being able to mount the shade well above the window itself.

  • Outside mounts can make your windows look much bigger.

Inside mounts fit your windows like a glove and always reveal their true size, but outside mounts can easily create the illusion of massive windows. If your home’s windows are on the smaller side but you love the look of big windows, outside mounted blinds and shades that are kept in a closed or semi-closed position can create the appearance of oversized windows.

Cons:

  • Outside mounts can be more difficult to measure and to get the right fit.

Inside mounts are easy to measure due to clearly defined boundaries of where your window treatments will go. But with outside mounts, there are no boundaries—just blank wall space. It’s important to know the exact size of the window treatments you want before ordering outside mounted blinds or shades in order to avoid ending up with coverings that are too small or too large.

  • Outside mounts can be more difficult to install depending on the mounting surface.

Installing inside mounts is a relatively straightforward and uniform process—especially when it comes to attaching the headrail to the top of the window frame. Installing outside mounts can range from easy to tricky depending on the surface where you will mount the headrail. Before deciding on using outside mounts for your window coverings, check to make sure that you won’t have any issues adhering the headrail.

Best Blinds for Your Kitchen

As home builders and recent home buyers can attest, the focal point of most new houses is no longer the living room or dining room—it’s the kitchen. It’s the place where meals and memories happen. Whether you’re hosting a holiday get-together, a family reunion, or a dinner party, chances are you and your guests will end up spending plenty of time in your kitchen.

Because of the increased focus on kitchens, many homeowners have opted to give those rooms the same decorative touch they give their bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms. While the primary purpose of kitchens will always be preparing and preserving food, there’s nothing that says yours can’t be one of the most stylish rooms in your home—especially if you install the right window coverings.

If you’re looking to hang new blinds or shades in your kitchen, but don’t know where to start, check out Blindster’s recommendations below—and if you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to contact our customer support representatives.

Best Blinds for Your Garage

For many homeowners, garages aren’t just places to store their vehicles—they’re recreation rooms, DIY project stations, man caves, game rooms, home gyms, and even home offices. With all the varied purposes for garages, it’s no surprise that many homeowners view them more like additional rooms in their homes rather than simply storage areas for vehicles, tools, and things that just don’t have a place anywhere else.

No matter what purpose your garage serves, if you spend a lot of time in it, chances are you’ve dealt with bright sunlight that can be distracting at certain times of the day, as well as a lack of privacy and insulation. Purchasing window treatments for your garage is the perfect way to put the finishing touches on a room that you’re transforming from purely “utility” to “living space,” or to just make your garage a more comfortable place for your family to be regardless of the season or time of day.

For suggestions on finding the perfect blinds and shades that will complement any garage, check out Blindster’s tips below.

privacy aluminum blinds

Not everyone wants anything beyond a basic window covering for their garage. If that’s case for your family, our Privacy Aluminum Blinds may be the perfect option. These blinds are not only highly effective at blocking out sunlight and insulating your garage, but as the name might suggest, they’re also ideal for protecting your family’s privacy. By using a manufacturing process that eliminates visible holes from appearing anywhere in the blinds, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that there’s no visibility inside your garage from the road. When placing your order, be sure to check out our options of four distinct and unique colors, including White, Bone, Mocha, and Sage.

premium faux wood

If your garage is more of a man cave or a home office than a storage space, you may be looking for window treatments with a more upscale appearance that can also hold up to the elements. Our 2 ½” Premium Faux Wood Blinds are an inexpensive and durable option that not only look beautiful in any setting, but they’re also available in a huge range of sizes and options, making them perfect for garages with non-traditional sized windows. Choose from wood stain colors like Antique White Embossed, Smooth Birch, Smooth Natural and Smooth Cherry.

smooth pvc

Many garages have exceptionally large windows or sliding glass doors that can be difficult to cover with traditional window treatments. If that’s the case at your home, our Smooth PVC Vertical Blinds may be the ideal solution. These blinds are easily opened and closed using a chain/cord or optional wand and can also be fully opened with minimal force due to a self-lubricated track. Because they’re manufactured using PVC and aluminum, these blinds can stand up to harsh conditions and can also be cut to fit windows or doors that are more than 10 feet long and 10 feet wide. Choose from 11 different colors, such as Light Blue, Ivory, and Light Mint.

exterior solar shades

Because they’re often uninsulated, garages are exposed to extreme temperatures on a yearly basis. Our Exterior Solar Shades 10% Open are designed to be installed in outdoor areas such as porches and patios, but they’re also ideal for garages with large windows that can cause major fluctuations in temperature on a frequent basis. Our 10% open shades block 90 percent of UV light, while our 14% open and 5% open block 86 percent and 95 percent, respectively. Despite the differences in UV light blockage, all of our exterior solar shades preserve your view of the outdoors while increasing your privacy.

blackout solar shades 2

The ultimate in insulation, privacy, and UV light blockage, our Premium Solar Shades Blackout not only eliminate 100 percent of the sun’s rays from reaching the inside of your garage, but they also hold heat inside your garage during the winter and keep it out during the summer. Available in eight different colors, including Wheat, Mushroom, Graphite, and Onyx, these shades are bacteria and fungus-resistant and can be easily cleaned due to their matte appearance and lack of folds where dirt and dust can accumulate.

solar 3 percent

If preserving your view of the outside is your top priority in your garage, then our Premium Solar Shades 3% Open are the ideal window treatments for your home. When fully drawn, you will still have an unobstructed view of the outside with almost no reduction in visibility, but these shades will block 97 percent of the sun’s UV rays, protecting your furniture, vehicles, and your family. Like our Premium Solar Shades Blackout, these window coverings are also bacterial and fungal resistant, making them ideal for the potentially harsh conditions in your garage.

top down bottom up cellular

If you value options and features in your window treatments—including the ability to raise and lower them from the top and bottom—you’ll love our Deluxe Cordless Top-Down/Bottom-Up Cellular Shades. Made using a fabric that’s both soft and durable, these shades are ideal for families with small children and pets, as the lack of cord or chain makes them safe for all family members. In addition, their cellular manufacturing process also makes them ideal for insulating your garage during the winter and even reducing nearby sounds, such as construction or traffic noises.

day night shades

Our Deluxe Cordless Day/Night Single Cellular Shades are the ideal window coverings for your garage regardless of the time of day. Manufactured using two shades in one, the top shade is light filtering and designed to protect your privacy while allowing ample light into your home or garage, while the bottom shade is a blackout and designed to eliminate virtually all sunlight. The double-layer of shades also means these window coverings are highly effective at insulating any room where they’re installed, which means a warmer garage in the winter and a cooler garage in the summer.
